YachtCircle.com is a social networking and crew placement website. On Yacht Circle crew can interact and communicate with other crew and keep in touch with old friends. Furthermore, as a crewmember you will be able to find work through our innovative process.
How does Yacht Circle’s placement services work?
Yacht Circle will have a completely new system unused today. Traditional placement agencies charge a percentage of the crews wage to the owners, typical this is roughly 70% of the crew members first month wage! This causes the owner’s costs of finding a single crewmember to range from a thousand to multiple thousands of dollars. What this creates is an environment where the owner will actually LOWER their hiring salaries in order to save money with the agencies. This is BAD for crew! With the current system some vessels are paying tens of thousands of dollars a year in crew agency fees. Yacht Circle, does NOT charge a percentage of the wage but rather we charge a low monthly subscription fee instead. An entire years subscription with Yacht Circle costs less than a single crew placement with a current agency.
Why do you charge crew? No other agency charges crew!
Due to our popularity and function as a social networking service for yacht crew as well as a placement service we are far more popular than any crew agency on the market today. Therefore we will have thousands and thousands of active crew on our website at any given point. In order to keep our resume pool filled with current crewmembers who are ACTIVELY searching for jobs and to keep owners searches relevant, we charge crew a 4.99 fee per month to active their resume. We KNOW that no crewmember not seriously looking for employment would pay any fee, so it keeps our resume pool filled with hungry looking crewmembers.
In conclusion, 4.99 ensures that you as a crewmember are committed to your job search, are actually looking for another job and are serious about your yachting career.
How can you charge so little?
Due to the fact that we have much lower overhead than a traditional placement firm we are able to charge owners significantly less than other agencies. Our low prices also encourage owners to post their jobs at recommended salaries.
So walk me through the placement process, how does it work?
When you have an active profile with us, you are able to view the Jobs page. On this page you will see job descriptions from prospective employers. On your jobs page, you can click “Apply” which instantly submits your resume to the owner/employer. There is no middle man! However, if you submit for a job, that you do not have the certifications for, you may be flagged by the Owner/Employer so pick only jobs you are qualified for! If you recieve 3 or more flags your resume will be removed.
What happens after I click “Apply”? Do you then choose whether or not to submit it to the owner?
NO. We are not the middlemen here. Our system is so easy and intuitive that when you click "Apply" your resume is sent directly to the Inbox of that owner. The owner can then either respond to you and set up a traditional interview at a time that’s convenient for you, or he can decline you if he feels that you aren’t the best fit for him. However, you can be sure he will SEE your resume EVERYTIME you click “Apply”.
Can we place ads and requests for work on the Forum?
No. We ask that you respect the fact that Yacht Circle is a placement firm as well as a social networking site. We, as professional yachtsman ourselves know that a lot of positions are offered with the friend of a friend on another boat type situation. We respect that and will allow any crewmember to tell other crewmembers in his PERSONAL network about jobs that he may know about through our email system. After all it is the main objective of Yacht Circle to connect crewmembers together. However, our Forum is viewable to everybody and this can be abused by unscrupulous owners. Our prices are already low, if you disrespect our system it will only cause our prices to go up. Furthermore, we have a very dedicated and skilled IT team that constantly looks for fraud and if you are caught abusing the system your profile will be deleted and your IP address will be blocked.
What should I do if I am a Captain and an Employer?
As a professional Captain it is a great idea to have your resume posted on our site, even if you are currently employed. Our site is a fantastic yacht network and Captains are a huge part of that equation. However, if you are looking for new crew we ask that you also sign up on our owner’s page and utilize our search functions there. We have designed our system so that it cannot be easily abused, if however, you do abuse it and try to acquire crew through the social networking site, your membership will be pulled and your yacht will be blocked permanently. We have a ZERO tolerance policy for fraud.
I love posting pictures on my personal profile. Some of them are well, are not something I would like an owner to see. What should I do?
Well the reality is that this is the internet, and if you’re that embarrassed about it don’t have it up there! But understand that every effort is made to prevent that from happening. Our goal is to keep business and personal information separate. Once an owner subscribes to us, they are able to search only through your Official Resume which of course has your professional picture on it. However, you should be aware that they can sign up on the crew site and search for your name and there is nothing that we can do to prevent that. Our advice is just keep it non-embarassing and keep getting jobs!
What should I do if I am approached through the email system by a person I don’t know personally offering me a position?
Report it! We understand you may be tempted to take that position and if you want to work for someone who refuses to pay the lowest placement price in the world, then well that’s your mistake. However, you should understand that placement is our main source of revenue, and we love providing all our services to crewmembers for FREE. However, if we find that we are being undermined consistently, we’ll be forced to remove those features you love so much, starting with the chat room! Do your part to stop it and we’ll keep everyone happy.
